I don’t have time for this rant. I have work. A lot of work … THANK YOU !! that’s for another post. I don’t feel so growly now.

OK, so the dogs are barking their waggin’ tails off – I look outside to find two phone books having just been delivered in their bright orange plastic bag. Great … the pick-up rattles down my street to another section of the neighborhood. I carry the books inside, determined to remember to call AT&T to ask them to STOP WASTING TREES. They apparently didn’t take my advice last year when I called.

I’m back at work for what couldn’t have been more than20 minutes and the dogs are barking AGAIN. What the wag is it now ? I find myself on the front step – I have TWO MORE useless books sitting here on my step, in another bright plastic bag. Oh My Holy Cow.

This is my green message, STOP WASTING TREES, ENERGY, TIME … stop printing phone books and giving them to every household with a phone. WE DON’T WANT ANOTHER PHONE BOOK ! Sure, some of us need the book, but VERY FEW even use this horribly overbloated listing of numbers easily found in the old phone book I have, or in the ONLINE VERSION OF THE SAME BOOK … and who needs four?

At the very least, print 1/4 of the quantity you now print, bind, trim, pack, ship, deliver and ask first. Who needs a new book? I know, I know, you need to keep those numbers up there, to keep those ad dollars coming in. It’s about time people stop thinking profit and start thinking preservation. Of our planet and of humankind. If you didn’t have to print so many phone books no one wants, you could charge us less.

That’s my green thought for the day.
